In the year 1966, Sri Padam Chandji Banthia, Sri Raj Singhji Jain and Sri jyoti Kumarji Nahar established ANGIMANDAL, with a motive to do Angi (to decorate) of Sri Bhomiaji Maharaj at Madhuban Shikharji on the Auspicious occasion of Holi. This was the beginning of a tradition, a culture, a devotion. There on, the three of them used to visit Madhuban on the occasion of Holi every year, to decorate Sri Bhomiaji Maharaj, to give Him a new look, to be appraised by all devotees.
With the passing years the sons of these three founder members also started accompanying their fathers and later some keen and interested relatives joined in. In the year 2006, Angimandal celebrated its 40th year with great enthusiasm where in a group of about 100 relatives and friends also visited Madhuban to add to this celebration. The Jain Swetambar Trust felicitated the three stalwarts of the Mandal on this occasion. With the passing years, time came for the celebrations to mark the 50th year of the Mandal in the year 2016. Once again the members joined hands to do something different. This time, on Falgun Sudi Purnima, apart from the angi of Sri Bhomiaji at Shikharji the same design of angi was done for Bhomiaji idols 3 more places at Kokkata – Jain Swetambar Panchayati Temple at Kalakar Street, Kumar Singh Hall at Indian Mirror Street and at Sri Mani Kumar Ji Maharaj Saheb’s Association at Townshend Road. This was appreciated by all very much. Apart from this the Mandal organized a cultural progrwmme at Kolkata at Vidya Mandir auditorium wherein the programme consisted of dance, songs a drama based on the life of Sri Bhomiaji Maharaj and bhajan by famous bhajan singers – Borad brothers from Indore. The programme was followed by lunch. The entire programme was a great success and a milestone in the journey of the Mandal.
Angimandal has tried to present a new, creative and artistic look of Sri Bhomiaji Maharaj every year during Holi. In the year 2012 they tried to decorate Baba in Thai style and in the year 2013, based on Egyptian theme which was appreciated largely and widely. In the year 2015 Angimandal again came up with a totally new concept of Space …. using neon lighting and florescent colors……
The temple trust at Bhelupur, Varanasi, the birth place of the 23rd Tirthankar, Sri Parshwanath Bhagwan, invited Angimandal to do Angi of Sri Parshwanath Bhagwan in Decmber 2013 on the occasion of the Janm Kalyanak (Birth Anniversary) of the 23rd Tirthanka. Angimandal also did the Angi of the 8th Tirthankar Sri Chandraprabhu Bhagwan at Chandrawati, on the occasion of his Janm Kalyanak a day later with a commendable demonstration of devotion. Angimandal has been continuously doing it every year since then.
In its way, Angimandal faced a major setback with the sad demise of one of its founder members – Sri Raj Singhji Jain in October 2013. Another big blow came with the sad demise of another Founder member cum main designer of the Mandal, Sri Jyoti Kumarji Nahar in April 2018.
Angimandal with its artistic form of worship, herby presents a collection of photographs of the Angi of Sri Bhomiaji Maharaj at Madhuban, Shikharji alongwith other Angi, done on different occasions at different temples.
